On August 7th the Harlingen
Police Department hosted the 24th annual National
Night Out. The event was held at Lon C. Hill/Fair Park in
Harlingen and welcomed residents in neighborhoods throughout
Harlingen. The National Night Out is designed to promote crime,
drug awareness, as well as increase community and police
partnerships. The American Red Cross South Texas Chapter
participated in the event by having a First Aid station in
cooperation with the Harlingen Emergency Medical Services. In
addition, we distributed brochures throughout the night to
promote and educate about Disaster preparedness and Health &
Safety services. The
main attraction to the American Red Cross booth was Ernie the
ERV (Emergency Response Vehicle). This lovable St. Bernard is a
new and wonderful addition the South Texas Chapter family. He
strolled along the event grounds and greeted hundreds of
children while passing out children’s activity books about
disaster preparedness.
A special thanks goes out to our volunteers who
participated in the event:

And a big THANK-YOU goes out to the Harlingen Police
Department for all the work they did to make the National Night
Out a big success!
