Cross Support for Afghanistan and Iraq
Recently the South
Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross received
funding from the Texas Resources for Iraq-Afghanistan
(TRIAD) Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation to
expand our Service to the Armed Forces.
Goals of the grant:
Red Cross Support for Afghanistan and Iraq Deployment
(RC SAID) has 3 components:
Provide nonrecurring travel assistance to family
members of injured military personnel at Wilford
Hall Medical Center (WHMC) and Brooke Army
Medical Center (BAMC).
Provide nonrecurring financial assistance to
community based National Guard and Reserve
personnel in our service area.
Provide outreach and referrals through Services
Available to Military (SAM).
How funding will be used:
A portion of our funds will be used to create a travel
assistance program for the family of injured military
personnel at WHMC and BAMC. We will provide travel
assistance and lodging on a case-by-case basis for up
to 2 family members for a maximum of 4 nights to visit
a loved one at WHMC or BAMC.
Another portion of our funds will be used to provide
nonrecurring financial assistance to National Guard
and Reserve personnel and their families who are
enduring financial hardship.
And finally, we will act as an information
clearinghouse for military personnel through the
establishment of our Services Available to Military
(SAM) program. SAM will allow us to compile
information on all of the services available to
military personnel in the 4 counties we serve, as well
as allow us to collaborate with other governmental and
non-governmental agencies who support the Armed
Eligibility for funding:
