Emergency Communication
In the event of an emergency, critical accident, illness or death in a service member's immediate family, the Red Cross should be called at once. This Chapter is equipped to verify the situation and relay an emergency leave request, if necessary to the proper military authorities.
When calling the Red Cross, please provide as much of the following information as is known:
- Full name
- Rank/rating
- Branch of service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or DoD Civilian or contractor)
- Social Security Account number
- Date of Birth
- Military address
Providing the following information will expedite the communication process. The granting of emergency leave is not the decision of the American Red Cross, rather it is the decision of the service memeber's commanding officer.
